Rural Women (Mujeres Rurales) (1992 - )

Date: 1992 -
Web: Official website of the programme
Description: The programme seeks to reduce the precariousness of economic initiatives carried out by rural women, potential users of the National Agricultural Institute (INDAP), who, because they carry out rather seasonal and precarious economic initiatives, require assistance in the development of business units. The programme proposes an intervention strategy based on a comprehensive gender and territorial approach, in which investments in human, social, physical, and financial capital are developed and articulated in order to optimise the productive results of the enterprises. Each module is made up of business units (groups), consisting of a group of rural women with similar resources and technical knowledge. The comprehensive nature of the intervention includes up to a three-year engagement with each group, with regular training in four thematic areas: technical-productive skills, business management, personal development, and organisational development. In addition, the programme includes investments in the business units; the first year includes co-financing for the creation of a business unit and training, the second year allocates resources for the growth and development of the business, and during the third year, efforts are made to support the commercialisation and/or formalisation of each unit. Complementarily, there are instruments aimed at reinforcing the productive efficiency of the groups, as well as strengthening their social capital and access to networks. The articulation of all the elements of the programme is based on the design of a Triennial Business Plan for each group, drawn up by a consultant, which constitutes a navigation chart of the activities, training, and investments to be followed in order to achieve the economic projections of the business and the development of the participants as entrepreneurs.
