Descripción: There are approximately 370 million indigenous peoples in the world today. Among them there is an enormous wealth of traditional knowledge that covers the whole spectrum of human endeavors, including health systems and medicines. Yet many of these communities face health challenges including higher maternal mortality rates, poorer access to health services and increased vulnerability to contract HIV and AIDS. With the forthcoming World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, the Conference on Population and Development as well as with the ongoing elaboration of the post 2015 development agenda, there is an opportunity for the international community to ensure indigenous peoples are included in the global development agenda.
