The UN chief urged governments, businesses, civil society, young people and activists to “think big and be ambitious,” reiterating that “this is the time for transformation — with all hands on deck. Let’s get the SDGs back on track.”
In a video message at the opening of the SDG Acceleration Day today (17 Sep), Guterres reiterated that this weekend is all about action towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking to the participants, he highlighted, “you are all part of a great global effort to rescue the SDGs, and deliver the action that our planet and people around the world are counting on.”
What is the SDG Acceleration Day:
The SDG Acceleration Day, held on September 17th, 2023, at the UN headquarters in NY, was a key component of the SDG Action Weekend. This Day serves to profile actions, investments and support to accelerate implementation at the country level between now and 2030.
The SDG Acceleration Day will build on the twelve high-impact initiatives that the UN development system is mobilizing around in advance of the SDG Summit. The initiatives correspond with six major SDG transitions; five critical means of implementation and the transversal priority of gender equality. |
