Ipsos has conducted an annual global survey on public attitudes towards refugees since 2017, as part of our commitment to understanding how people view refugee protection around the world. This year's report comes shortly after World Refugee Day and during the 75th anniversary year of the 1951 Refugee Convention. Both provide an opportunity to reflect on attitudes toward refugee protection. Our 2026 survey, covering more than 21,000 people across 29 countries, suggests that public attitudes are more stable than headlines sometimes imply. Most people continue to support offering refuge to those escaping war or persecution. But many remain unconvinced the system works as it should - questions about who qualifies for refugee protection, how borders should be managed, and whether refugees will successfully integrate have not gone away. |
