Resumen: The demographic processes experienced in most countries in Latin America over the last century are characterized by changes in mortality and fertility compressed into a very short period. As a result, population aging has increased at an unprecedented pace that might be sustained well into the middle of the 21st century. Evidence for this change can be seen in increases in the proportion of people more than 60 years old.
