Resumen: | In the newly launched book The Power of Local Action: Lessons from 10 Years of the Equator Prize we ask: What can these communities teach us about successful community-driven development focused on the sustainable use of local ecosystems? What is the potential range of economic, social, and environmental benefits that such efforts are likely to generate? What can these communities tell us about enabling conditions identified in previous research, such as tenure security, good governance practices, the capacity of local organizations, partnerships and support services, and communication and learning networks? Can these successes be extended to other similar communities, and, if so, what factors are most critical to this scaling up process? The book limits itself to a treatment of twelve key lessons with the greatest relevance for understanding and catalyzing effective ecosystem-based action at the local level. |
