Description: This program lies under the Contributory Pensions Act of 1970 with the main purpose to provide assistance to qualified individuals without any contributory pension. The principal target population is the older people and people with disability who lack basic income of their own.

Comments: There is a residency requirement to be eligible for the program, which is to have ordinarily resided in Bermuda for 10 years during the 20 years period preceding the date of claim. In the same sense, recipients who are not living in Bermuda ordinarily are disqualified for the support. Moreover, persons under imprisonment do not have entitlement for the pension.

2) Non-contributory disability benefit

Comments: Since 1985, the rate of "non-contributory disability support" is the same as the lower rate of non-contributory old-age pension. The claimants of this component should present a certificate from a registered medical practitioner proving their incapability of gainful employment permanently.
