The initiative to create the COVID-19 Observatory arises from the “Virtual Ministerial Meeting of Health Issues for the Attention and Monitoring of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean” held on march 26,2020 within the framework of the Pro Tempore Presidency of Mexico in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). On this occasion, ECLAC was requested to launch, through its Social Development Division, an observatory to keep track of the actions and measures taken by the 33 governments of the region to tackle COVID-19. With this objective, the site compiles data on policies currently implemented, offering detailed profiles by country, as well as analyses of the economic and social impacts of the policies. Documents linked to these databases, are also included.
